Main news for the band is the appointment of a new conductor to the band Keith Anderson. See the message below. Keith takes over from Stephen Crookes who had decided to retire from conducting Laganvale (but playing in the band). We wish Keith all the best in his role with Laganvale, and thank Stephen for all his help over his 4 years of conducting the band.
And indeed Keith had his first success in conducting Laganvale through winning the The Queen's Festival of Brass recently at the end of November. The Band also took Best March and Best Soloist (Mark Ruddock).
Prior to that the band gave a very good performance of "Diversions on a Bass Theme" in the NIBA contest at the end of October, receiving 2nd prize and Best Instrumentalist going to the band's soprano player (Mark Ruddock).
As stated below, the band are looking for new players so please do get in contact to join this new exciting phase in the Band's history.
New Conductor Announcement
Laganvale (Metal Technology) Band is delighted to announce the appointment of Keith Anderson as the bands’ new conductor. Keith has a long association with the band having played in the tuba section for a number of years.
During these years, the band participated in local contests as well as the British Open Spring Festival, European Championships, Buxton Festival, Pontins and Isle of Man Festival.
Keith has been conducting brass bands for 2 decades and has achieved numerous successes with St Mark’s Silver, Murley Silver and Roughan Silver. Under his leadership, Murley Silver won the NIBA Championship in 2007.
In Keith’s first contest as conductor of Laganvale, The Queen’s University Festival of Brass in November 2018, the band were awarded overall 1st place as well as Best March and Best Soloist for Mark Ruddock.
The band is looking to build on this success and would welcome interest from any ambitious brass or percussion players who’d like to get involved with an ambitious, forward-thinking band.
We will be competing in 5 contests during 2019, including the British Open Spring Festival in Blackpool.
If you are interested in this excellent opportunity, please contact the band via our Facebook page or by e-mailing Band Secretary Fraser Ramsay (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Band Chairman Andy McQuiggan (email@example.com). Alternatively, you could attend one of our rehearsals.
We rehearse on Monday and Thursday evenings at 8pm in our band hall on Wansbeck Street, Belfast, BT9 5FQ. Rehearsals re-commence on Monday 7th January.
7th August 20178
Not published in a while. Band has been through a few contests then with some wins and some not wins, with the highlight being an excellent trip to the European Brass Band Championships in Utrecht back in May.
Good news is that the band still going strong but is holding an open night on Monday 13th August for anyone to come along and have a blow.
On a sad note, a past conductor of the band James Kitchen Senior passed away recently. There was a great turn out at his funeral on 1st August which showed the respect he had throughout banding. Our thoughts are with his family.
