Well two contests completed since last update.  Back in October (19th), we competed in the NIBA and won the senior section!  It was a great result for the band and the 1st win for our conductor Trevor Carter.  Congratulations to the winners in all the other sections too.  The full results are available from the NIBA site (see Links section).

More recently, the Band competed in the Queen's University of Belfast Festival of Brass Contest, on Saturday past.  The band put on a very good show and achieved 2nd place (both in playing and entertainments).  John Murdoch took the soloist prize so congratulations to him.  And the winnders were Downshire Brass so again big congrats to them.  Full results available from the BBL site (see Links section).

All the best to the Band, and indeed all the other bands, competing in tomorrow's NIBA contest.  Full results will be available from the N.I.B.A. site (and indeed the results for last week's section already published), see the Links section.

Been a while since updated this site!  Since last time we have had:
  1. BBL solos in February, with a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place for players from the band in the senior section and positions in other sections too.  So very good result for the band overall.
  2. Fivemiletown Brass in Concert Contest, our 1st contest under our new conductor Trevor Carter, and the band put on a very good performance achieving 2nd place, to - it has to be said - an excellent performance by the 1st Old Boys band.  But consolation was Dessie Neill winning the soloist prize.
Full results for both are available here.  We are now getting ready for the BBL contest this Saturday, and the band will be playing "Journey into Freedom", which we will play again two weeks later in Blackpool.

Happy New Year to all in the band scene!

And with a new year comes a new conductor for Laganvale Band. Trevor Carter has formally taken over the baton from Ernie Ruddock with his 1st official rehearsal on Thursday night past (17th).  The band look forward  to exciting times with Trevor and hope to continue the level of success the band had under Ernie.  See section The Band for more information on Trevor.

To celebrate Ernie's time in brass banding now that he has retired, Laganvale Band have organised a retirement event for him on Saturday 23rd February 2013 in Dunmurry Golf Club starting 8pm.  There will be a 3 course meal then the group Big Deal will provide entertainment through to midnight.  The cost is 25 per person for the event and is open to everyone who knows Ernie (i.e. not just for Laganvale Band members).  So please use the Contact Us section if would like to attend and have not already contacted Mark Ruddock.

Also in terms of changes to the band two members also decided to retire at the end of 2012, with Carroll and Ann Mulligan deciding to hand up their instruments.  The band wish them all the best in their retirement too.

Finally, the events list has been updated for 2013.

Here's looking forward to the 1st contest under our new conductor on 2nd March 2013 in Fivemiletown (Trevor, new conductors buy the band a drink at the first contest!).
